Thorpe United v Norwich Res

League cup – Thorpe united 2 Norwich city reserves 1

This eagerly awaited cup clash was well contested by both teams but it was Thorpe who edged into the quarter finals with a winner just as extra time was looming. The game started at a hectic pace but gradually settled down with more football being played & Thorpe enjoying the majority of the pressure & they took the lead when a cros from the right found laura racing in at the far post to meet it with a shot that was saved by the keeper, but the ball came straight back to laura who finished well.Norwich equalised when from a Thorpe corner they broke quickly & their foward luci held off the defenders before shooting over kirstys head & in for a good finish.Just before half time lakey had a glorious chance to put Thorpe back in the lead as she beat defenders & the keeper to a through ball & placed her shot low & towards the corner of the net but the ball trickled agonisingly the wrong side of the post.It was lakey again who threatened after the restart through on goal denied this time by a good save.Norwich defended well as Thorpe pressed but the visitors were still dangerous on the break but Thorpe too were resolute in defence. However the tie was settled 5 minutes from time when charlotte released lakey who from the corner of the penalty box lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper for a great finish from probably the hardest chance she,d had in the game.Thorpe,s reward is a trip to woodbridge town in the quarter final. P.o.m sophie who worked hard & was a threat all game
