Sprowston 5 - 2 TUGFC

Last Match Report – Sprowston Girls 5 – 2 Thorpe Utd

Another excellent performance from the U10s who have clearly improved with every game. We were expecting a very tough game, especially after being well beaten by Sprowston girls in a pre season friendly (and I have to say I think Sprowston thought it might be easy for them). All the more reason why our performance was so good and we surprised them with our quality and work rate straight from the off, and really had the lions share of the opening skirmishes.
Once again some quality defending from Ellie and Laila, and the safe hands of Grace, frustrated the opposition and we could have scored a couple in the opening period. As it happens Sprowston took the lead after a lapse in concentration, a retaken throw seemed to confuse our girls and they took full advantage and scored against the run of play.
However we responded well and didn’t let our heads drop and put them under immediate pressure, which paid off with an excellent goal from the energetic Ebony, pouncing on a loose ball and lobbing it over their keeper. We went in at half time deserving of the score line, if not unlucky not to be in front.
The second half saw much the same, with TUGFC showing great energy and drive in a more even contest, and we took a deserved lead. Some great work from Lydia and Jess provided an opportunity for Shai, and after the initial chance seem to have disappeared some great footwork and another neat finish.
After this Sprowston piled on the pressure and despite some valiant defending they managed to equalise, again after a little lapse in concentration. The last 5 minutes we seemed to run out of steam (I can’t wait to see how much Lydia runs when she hasn’t done a 150m swim prior to KO!!) and although we had another couple of chances the third Sprowston goal proved decisive. A couple more on the break as we chased the game really flattered them and the eventual score line doesn’t really reflect how well all the girls played against the pre season favourites. A fantastic effort from all which gained some glowing compliments from the opposition’s management team. Well done all.
