A tough away game for our first visit to the seaside this season on a massive pitch – I am sure I didn’t play on pitches that big when I played adult 11 a side!!
After a fairly even first few minutes we seemed to really struggle with the physical size of the pitch and their team and a regard action was the order of the day, with Shai ready to pounce on any counter attack we could muster.
We defended relatively well in the first half and once again Grace kept us in the game with some fine saves, one particular save tipping the ball over the bar was the pick of the bunch. We worked hard in midfield to try to gain the ball with Lydia, Ebony and Jess covering as much of the pitch as they could, Jess being the pick of the midfield with some nice touches and positive running with the ball. Eventually our defence of Laila and Ellie was breached with the first half drawing to a close with perhaps an unfortunate goal that just crept in. Another goal before half time seemed to really dent the confidence of the team and a bourbon break couldn’t come quick enough.
It was great to see Rebecca putting in a couple decent challenges and Amber getting involved towards the end of the half.
The Second half was in fairness all Waveney and the girls struggled to cope with the pace of their opponents and the amount of grass needed to cover. Once we had conceded a couple of early goals our heads seemed to drop a bit and the enthusiasm and energy as seen in the last two games, had disappeared. Tim and Jason took the opportunity to change the side around a bit and cameos from Rachel and Amber will give them a bit more experience for the next games
The final score line was a bit harsh on TUGFC and some of the goals could have been avoided at the end with several coming straight from our kicks, so plenty to work on in training and I think we will have a better chance on our more compact pitch in the return leg.
