Thorpe were hoping to start the first game of 2012 on a high against their rival team of Hethersett, and after their last meeting together back in November both teams appeared to be well up for this game.
Both teams were giving a good fight and after a great run from lakey she took a shot which was saved but soon after Hethersett had an opportunity to take the lead from a free kick but Kirsty was aware and stopped the shot.
Thorpe continued to battle and with great play from Sophie, Charlotte and Bex followed by 3 great attempts in attack but the home side could not find the back of the net. Not long after Thorpe had another opportunity with an air kick from the Hethersett defender Bex knicked the ball for a 1 on 1 but her shot was taken straight at the keeper.
After a very quiet 10 minutes Hethersett got on the attack and a header which went over Kirsty and was rolling towards goal at some speed but Alice kept the score level with a great clearance off the line. And towards the end of the first half there was continuous pressure from Hethersett. Lakey had the final attack for the half but the shot fell straight to the keeper.
Half time 0-0
Subs: Sophie, Lisa-marie OFF
Lauren, Laura ON
The second half had kicked off when Thorpe soon realised 1 of their subs was missing... JUDE?? Where was she?? Left locked in the charging room toilets. Oops.
The game continued like the first half the ball being passed from 1 end of the pitch back to the other. It wasn't long before Hethersett took a shot but it was tipped over the bar by Kirsty followed by another great save following from the Hethersett corner. This was soon followed by an attack from Thorpe but their shot was sent wide. A corner left them with a number of chances being finalised by a shot from Alice only for the Hethersett keeper to pull off a great save.
Moments later Thorpe went on another attack Laura won the ball from the keeper and slotted the ball nicely into the back of the net but the goal was disallowed. With some confusion seen from the sideline did the keeper have both hands on the ball or did Laura commit a foul on the defender?
Thorpe continued to battle to get a goal but they just couldn't seem to get it past the away keeper.
Sub: Bex OFF, Judith ON
A good ball through from Alice and Becky took a shot just piping it past the post. The attacking attempts continued from Thorpe with a corner delivered and Becky just heading it over the bar.
Thorpe kept battling and it was seen by the tension and anger the away sideline were giving off through the pressure.
Just minutes from the final whistle Laura was pushed in the penalty area but no penalty awarded which could have given the home side the lead they deserved.
Final score 0-0
